Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions.

We recommend booking your consultation at least 4–6 weeks before your departure date. Some vaccines require multiple doses over several weeks to be fully effective. That said, we accommodate last-minute travel — call us at 613-823-8030 and we will do everything we can.

No referral needed. You can book directly with our pharmacy. Our pharmacists are certified to assess, recommend, and administer all travel vaccines independently.

Most travel vaccines are not covered by OHIP, but may be partially covered by private insurance plans. We recommend checking with your insurance provider. We offer direct billing to major insurers and provide insurance-ready receipts.

Costs depend on where you're travelling and which vaccines are required. Pricing includes professional assessment and vaccine administration. Exact costs are reviewed during your consultation once your itinerary is assessed. Call us ahead of time if you'd like a general estimate.

Yes. Receiving multiple vaccines in a single visit is safe and very common in travel medicine. We administer them together to reduce the number of appointments needed before your trip.

Protection duration varies by vaccine. Yellow fever protection lasts a lifetime from a single dose. Hepatitis A and B protection can last 20+ years. Typhoid protection lasts 3–5 years depending on the formulation. Japanese encephalitis lasts 1–3 years. We review your previous vaccination history and advise on what is still current.

Bring government-issued photo ID, your insurance card, any previous vaccination records you have, your travel itinerary (dates, destinations, activities), and your current medication list. Missing any of these will not prevent your appointment.

You will receive an International Certificate of Vaccination and Prophylaxis (ICVP yellow card) for yellow fever and other applicable vaccines, an updated vaccination record, and prescriptions for any travel medications. All documentation meets international entry requirements.

Yes. Malaria prevention is part of a full travel consultation. We assess your destination-specific risk, prescribe antimalarials (atovaquone-proguanil, doxycycline) when appropriate, and provide education on reducing exposure.

Yes. We provide travel health consultations for the whole family, including children. For very young children, we coordinate with your paediatrician on age-appropriate vaccine selection and dosing.

Most side effects are mild and short-lived — arm soreness or brief fatigue are the most common. We are available by phone after your appointment. For rare severe reactions, we advise proceeding to emergency care immediately.

The ICVP (International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis), commonly called a yellow card, is official documentation of yellow fever vaccination. Many countries in Africa and South America require proof of vaccination for entry. We are a certified yellow fever administration centre and issue these certificates on-site.
